Dr. Lair Ribeiro,
said that, "If you go on doing what you've always done, you'll go on getting
what you've always got."
I have read this very interesting book. I hope that the following summary of what I have picked up from
him, will make you seek this book out and learn for yourself.
Basic Fundamentals To
Success
Dr Ribeiro said that in order to be successful in anything you aim to do, you
must have these three basic fundamentals:
1) Willingness
2) Ability
3) Opportunity
You don't agree? Let us say that you want to swim (Willingness) but you do
not know how to (Ability), you are not going to make it, right?. However,
if you are willing and know how to but you do not have a pool of water to swim
in (opportunity) you are not going to do it either. So, what if you are an
accomplished swimmer? Would you swim even when the pool is right in front
of you if you are not willing to? Got it?
HowWilling Are You ?
Let us find out if you are truly willing to do what it takes to get to where you
want to be.
Yes No
Are you willing to work hard to get there?
Do you have the
commitment to do your best to make a tremendous difference in getting the result
you want?
Are you willing
to make an extra effort to look and learn with an open mind?
Do you have the
willpower to see it through?
What About Your Ability?
Can you imagine traveling to an unknown destination without a map or someone to
guide you? No matter how determinedly you stride on, you either do not get
there or you are going to take a longer time to get there compared to someone
who knows the way. Would a basketball team ever win if they use football
strategy to play the game? So, success also depends on strategy and not on
mere willingness or willpower to get it.
Are there ways to expand on your ability to succeed? Here are some tips
from Dr Ribeiro :
You must have a prepared mind.
You must not allow negative
messages from your mind set limitation to your performance.
You must let go of
counterproductive tendencies.
You must know exactly where your
energies must be placed.
You must be attentive to people who
are successful, identify and imitate their effective habits.
You must expand your vision and
change your perceptions.
You must create new reality and
make some changes to succeed.
You must not convey negative and
limiting messages as it will affect your self esteem.
You must not let others make you
feel belittled or unhappy.
You must let positive experiences replace
negative input to boost your self esteem.
You must overcome bad emotional programming.
Opportunity
In order for you to know if you will be able to find the opportunity to become
successful, you must first learn to identify it. Read the following story
and decide which of these salesmen you want to be.
Two salesman were sent overseas to scout for new markets. Their first stop
was a country where everyone was barefoot. The first salesman sent back a
telegram to the home office saying, "Leaving tomorrow. No one wears
shoes" The second salesman's telegram was very different. He
said, "Great potential market. No competition. No one wears
shoes".
The word "crisis" in Mandarin is made up of two words; danger and
opportunity. For every action that you take, there is going to be a
positive or negative result. If you view actions you are considering
taking as risky, chances are, you will fail to take action. But if you
look at every event in your life as an opportunity and act on it to get the
result you want, there will always be a possibility that you will succeed.
