THE GATEKEEPER

There was a church in one of the northern Europe country. It has a statue of Jesus being crucified on a cross and the height of it was about the same height of an average man.

Everyday, many people came to the front of the statue and make wishes...and usually, all wishes would come true.  Looking at so many wishes that Jesus has to fulfill everyday, the gatekeeper of the church  felt very sorry for Jesus. So one day, he came in front of the statue just like any others and made a wish. He told Jesus about how he felt and he prayed that he could help to lighten Jesus chores....

To his surprise, he heard a voice "Great, we will exchange our position.  I will help you with your gatekeeper's job and you help me fulfill all these wishes basing on one important condition: No matter what you see or  hear, you are not allowed to say a single word.".  "This is easy, okay, DEAL" said the gatekeeper. And in just seconds the gatekeeper found himself hanging up on the cross looking exactly like the statue.

During the day, the gatekeeper was listening to a lot of wishes, reasonable and unreasonable. But no matter what he heard, he kept his promise - he did not say a single word.  Then, there came a very rich man. After his prayer, he left in a hurry and left his wallet behind on the floor. The gatekeeper wanted to call for him but he remains quiet as he has to keep his promise to Jesus.

Next, a very very poor beggar came... he was very sincere and he wished that Jesus could help him resolve his financial difficulties for his entire family.  After his prayer, when he opened his eyes, he saw the rich man's wallet. He was thrilled and excited when he found a lot of money in the wallet. He thanks the statue for making his wish come true immediately.  Happily, he went away.  The gatekeeper wanted to tell him the truth, but then and again, he kept quiet in order to keep his promise.

And next, came a sailor. He knelt down sincerely and pray to the statue, for his safety in the upcoming trip. As he was sincerely praying, the rich man came back, caught hold of the sailor and demanded for this wallet.  The sailor was puzzled and they ended up in a heat up argument.  This time, the gatekeeper could longer hold his breath, he told both of them the truth. Happily, the rich man went off to look for the poor beggar while the sailor rushed off to catch his ship.

Now came the real Jesus. He demanded the gatekeeper to come down from the statue immediately. He said," You are not fit to stand up there!"  The gatekeeper could not understand why it was wrong to speak the truth.  esus explained : "What you have done are just basing what you think you have seen.  But do you know that the rich man has a lot of money and he only uses the money for prostitution and enjoyment. For the beggar, the money is to help his entire family whom were suffering from hunger for the past few days.  And what happened worst is the sailor. The argument just now may seems like an misunderstanding and he would miss boarding the ship.  But at least, he gets to survive. Now, it is too late, the ship he boarded is going to meet with some mishap at the sea.

The above story may sounds like a joke or everything seems to be depending on fate. But in fact what it is trying to show us is : What you think best for others may not be the best as what you think is just basing on your experience. So, do not try to force others into your belief systems of what is best.  Always look at things at the positive side...as whatever happens definitely has it's true meaning and lesson to learn.  Always remember, whatever happens, it is always the best arrangement for you.  If you have understood this, you will always have a thankful heart and our life will always be positive and happy!

A Chinese saying:

"When someone shares with you something of value and you derive benefit from it, you have the obligation to share it with others".
