The Builder
There was once a very skilful builder who took such great pride in his craft
that he never failed to satisfy the customers who bought the houses he had
built.
After many years of diligently building for his master, the
builder informed him that he was getting old and tired and would like to
retire.
But the owner would not let him go just yet. He told the
builder that he would only let him go if he could build one last house for a
very important person. The builder was disappointed but did as he was
told by his master.
This last house that he built, in such a state of discontentment was, of
course, not as perfect or as beautiful compared to all the other houses he
has built before. In fact, he was so keen to retire that he completed
it in less then half the time he usually took.
When he handed the keys
to the completed house to his master, he was surprised when his master held
his hands and told him that this last house that he has completed was his
gift to him in appreciation for the many years of good services he has
provided.
The old man lived out his days in the last house he had built. A day did
not go by without his recalling how foolish he had been as tears rolled down
his eyes each time he noticed the imperfect work he had left behind… |
